Companies House Verification With a Russian Passport

Verify for Companies House with a Russian passport: use the international passport, transliteration differences and patronymics.

Directors and PSCs of UK companies who hold a Russian passport must verify their identity with Companies House like every other officer, wherever they live. The points that cause problems are which passport to use, how your name is transliterated, and patronymics.

This overview is also available in Русский.

Use Your International Passport

Use your international passport (zagranpasport), which shows your name in Latin letters, rather than your internal passport, which is in Cyrillic only. Any other valid government-issued photo ID with your name in Latin letters can also be used.

Transliteration and Patronymics

Russian names can be transliterated in several ways (Yuri, Yuriy, Iurii), and the spelling in a newer passport may differ from the one used when you were registered as a director. Your patronymic may appear as a middle name on the register, or not at all.

Automated checks treat these as mismatches. On the ACSP route, a compliance officer compares your passport with the register and records alternative spellings, so the application is not rejected for a transliteration difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Russian passport should I use?

Use your international passport, which shows your name in Latin letters. The internal passport is in Cyrillic only.

My name is spelled differently on the register. What should I do?

Enter your name exactly as in your passport and add the register spelling as an alternative name. A compliance officer reviews the difference.

Do I need to include my patronymic?

Include it if it appears on your passport or on the Companies House register, so the two can be matched. If they differ, note both.

Is this information available in Russian?

Yes. Our Russian-language page explains the requirements. The application form itself is in English.
